Silvaco pitched as TCAD 'digital twin'

- Silvaco’s TCAD “digital twin” pitch rests on disclosed products and deals, not a new TSMC or Tower announcement, with Micron the named customer. - Micron expanded its software deal with Silvaco on April 16, 2024 and added a $5 million convertible note tied to FTCO tools. - Silvaco says it won a second AI/ML FTCO customer in 2025 as adoption spread beyond memory into foundry markets. A chip “digital twin” is software that models a wafer-making process before a fab runs costly trial lots. Silvaco is selling that idea through its TCAD and FTCO tools, with Micron the clearest named user in public filings. (silvaco.com 1) (silvaco.com 2) TCAD stands for technology computer-aided design, the class of software process engineers use to simulate how materials, doping, heat, stress and current behave inside a semiconductor device. Silvaco says those tools cut development cost and time by letting engineers see “inside” a device before manufacturing. (silvaco.com 1) (silvaco.com 2) Silvaco’s more specific pitch is FTCO, short for Fab Technology Co-Optimization. The company says FTCO combines manufacturing data, physics models and machine learning to build a computer model of a wafer process that can be queried without running physical wafers. (silvaco.com 1) (silvaco.com 2) That is where the “digital twin” label comes from. Silvaco says the model can predict how changing process knobs such as implantation doses will move device targets such as threshold voltage, giving non-TCAD engineers a faster way to test tradeoffs. (silvaco.com) The named commercial proof point is Micron, not TSMC or Tower. On April 16, 2024, Silvaco said Micron expanded and extended its software license and support agreement and invested $5 million through a senior subordinated convertible promissory note tied to FTCO development. (silvaco.com) (micron.com) Micron’s Gurtej Sandhu, a principal fellow of Technology Pathfinding, said Silvaco’s artificial intelligence and digital twin tools were helping Micron speed work in memory and storage. Micron separately described the investment as a recent $5 million convertible note through Micron Ventures. (silvaco.com) (micron.com) TSMC and Tower do appear in Silvaco materials, but in a different role. Silvaco lists Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and Tower Semiconductor as foundry partners for process design kits, which support its custom analog design tools rather than serving as disclosed FTCO digital-twin customers. (silvaco.com) (silvaco.com) Silvaco has also widened the technical scope of the pitch. In a September 24, 2024 release, the company said its Victory TCAD baseline release added support for planar CMOS, FinFET and gate-all-around transistor technologies, plus cryogenic modeling down to 1 kelvin. (silvaco.com) By March 12, 2026, Silvaco said it had secured a second artificial intelligence and machine learning FTCO customer and that TCAD bookings rose 70% sequentially to $9.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2025. The company said its largest booking segments were display, power, foundry and automotive. (investors.silvaco.com) So the current story is narrower than the social-media shorthand suggests. Silvaco has a public Micron partnership, foundry relationships with TSMC and Tower around design enablement, and a growing claim that AI-assisted TCAD can act like a process “digital twin” for more than one customer.
