CyHi Disses J. Cole
CyHi has ignited discussion by taking shots at J. Cole on his new track "Lost Control." The diss is a response to Cole's 2016 track "False Prophets," indicating that old wounds and competitive energy are alive and well in the hip-hop scene.
The bad blood stems from J. Cole's 2016 track "False Prophets," where he took aim at an artist many identified as Kanye West, a close and longtime collaborator of CyHi's. Cole later confirmed that one verse was indeed about West, criticizing a "star" who is "falling apart" and surrounded by "yes men." On "Lost Control," CyHi makes the connection explicit, rapping, "You forgot I still owe you for 'False Prophets.'" The track was produced by Brian AllDay and Mark Byrd and serves as a direct lyrical retaliation that has been simmering for years. CyHi didn't stop at the 2016 slight. He also criticizes Cole for retracting his diss towards Kendrick Lamar, with the line, "You was scared of our good brother in that Grand National, why?" This lyric references Lamar's affinity for the Buick Grand National car and suggests Cole backed down from a lyrical challenge. The diss track was preceded by social media posts from CyHi contrasting street-savvy lyricists with "straight A students who dropped out of college to be rappers," a comment widely interpreted as a shot at Cole's background. CyHi later replied to his own post, seemingly confirming the target by stating, "I was talking about J. Cole, but since y'all reminded me…."
