Kim Petras Promotes Road Trip Album
Kim Petras is promoting her album "Detour" as perfect for "crazy nights" and "good road trips," inspiring fans to break away from routine. The post encouraging reinvention through travel and music received 625 likes and 63 reposts.
The album, titled "Detour," has been a long-awaited project for fans, with Petras first discussing work on it during her "Feed The Beast World Tour" back in October 2023. By May 2025, the singer confirmed via social media that the album was "100% done." The road to release has been fraught with challenges, as Petras publicly stated in January 2026 that her label, Republic Records, had been withholding the completed album for six months. She announced at the time that she had formally requested to leave the label to release "Detour" as an independent artist. Petras has described the album as more personal and emotional than her previous efforts. In a 2025 interview, she explained her new creative direction, stating, "I'm thinking about what I want pop music to be and not about what I think will be successful, so that's been really freeing." To shape the album's sound, Petras collaborated with other transgender artists, including Margo XS and Angel Prost from the group Frost Children. Petras noted their involvement "changed everything" and was instrumental in crafting the music for the new record. Leading up to the album's promotion, Petras has released a series of singles, including "Polo," "Freak It," "I Like Ur Look," "Pop Sound," and "Cha Cha." The track "Polo," released in July 2025, marked her first song with a co-producer credit. This project follows her 2023 album "Problématique" and the 2024 EP "Slut Pop Miami." It also comes after her historic 2023 Grammy Award win for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Unholy" with Sam Smith, which made her the first openly transgender solo artist to hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
