Agents Become the Product

Enterprise AI vendors are no longer selling just chat windows; they are selling software agents that can complete narrow jobs inside a company’s systems. OpenAI said its new workspace agents in ChatGPT can run “long-running workflows” in the cloud and operate within company permissions. In a separate announcement, Google Cloud said it was setting aside $750 million for partners building and deploying agentic AI. The company said workspace agents are shared team tools that can connect to services like Slack and Salesforce, replacing the older model of one-off custom GPTs with agents that can use company data and follow team processes. The question is no longer only which chatbot writes the best answer, but which platform can reach the right files, respect internal access rules, and trigger work across the tools a company already uses.
