Wolf Alice Wins Second BRIT
Wolf Alice won Best British Group at the 2026 BRIT Awards for the second time, delivering a theatrical performance of "The Sofa." Lead singer Ellie Rowsell used her winner's speech to call for renewed support for the UK's grassroots music scene.
This marks the London-based quartet's second win in the Best British Group category, their first coming in 2022. That initial victory was propelled by their critically acclaimed third album, "Blue Weekend" (2021), which became their first to top the UK album charts. The 2026 win follows the release of their fourth studio album, "The Clearing," in 2025. For the award, Wolf Alice beat out a field of nominees that included Pulp, The Last Dinner Party, Wet Leg, and Sleep Token. In her acceptance speech, singer Ellie Rowsell gave specific figures on the crisis facing small venues, noting that in the last year 30 independent venues closed, 6,000 jobs were lost, and over half of these venues reported making no profit at all. The BRIT is not the band's only major UK music award. In 2018, they took home the prestigious Mercury Prize for their sophomore album, "Visions Of A Life," beating out acts like Arctic Monkeys and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
