VW launches Taigun facelift in India

Volkswagen unveiled a facelift for the Taigun in India as part of a regional product update that was reported alongside other South Asian market moves (x.com). Coverage noted the launch occurred amid a patchwork of local changes, including separate updates from rivals in the region (x.com).

Volkswagen has unveiled the facelifted Taigun in India, giving its midsize sport utility vehicle new styling, more features and a new automatic gearbox. (volkswagen.co.in) The update was announced on April 9, 2026, and Volkswagen said pre-bookings are open through its website and dealerships. The company called it the Taigun’s first major refresh since the model went on sale in India in September 2021. (volkswagen.co.in 1) (volkswagen.co.in 2) Volkswagen said the new Taigun adds 40 features, including illuminated front and rear logos, revised front and rear bumpers, Infinity LED tail-lamps, and refreshed interiors. CarDekho reported new 17-inch alloy wheels and two added paint options, Steel Grey and Avocado Pearl. (volkswagen.co.in) (cardekho.com) Inside, Volkswagen and dealer coverage say the top trims get a new infotainment operating system, a new digital cockpit, powered and ventilated front seats, connected-car tech and a rear-seat massager. CarWale said the facelift is being sold in six trims and nine colours. (carwale.com) (volkswagen.co.in) The mechanical change is smaller but important in India’s high-volume sport utility vehicle market: the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol now gets an 8-speed automatic in place of the earlier 6-speed unit. CarWale listed output for that engine at 114 brake horsepower and 178 newton-metres, while the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol stays with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox in GT trims. (volkswagen.co.in) (carwale.com) Volkswagen is keeping safety at the center of the pitch. The company said the Taigun carries a 5-star Global New Car Assessment Programme rating, six airbags as standard, and more than 40 active and passive safety features. (volkswagen.co.in) The facelift lands in one of India’s busiest passenger-car segments, where the Taigun competes with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, MG Astor and Tata Curvv. CarWale said Volkswagen has not added Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems or a 360-degree camera, though it reported the company is working on the driver-assistance package for a future generation. (carwale.com) The timing also follows weaker recent Taigun volumes. V3Cars’ March 2026 sales table showed 698 Taiguns sold in February 2026, down from 790 in January, while the Virtus sedan remained Volkswagen’s top seller in India. (v3cars.com) Taigun is still a core local model for Volkswagen. The company launched it in India at an introductory price of 10.49 lakh rupees in September 2021, and industry coverage this week said production of the facelift had already started at Volkswagen’s Pune plant before the reveal. (volkswagen.co.in) (carandbike.com) Volkswagen has revealed the new Taigun, but it has not yet published full pricing for the facelift. For now, the company is asking buyers to book first and wait for the sales launch that follows this April unveiling. (volkswagen.co.in) (cardekho.com)
