Christie’s is putting Bada Shanren’s *Twin Eagles* on the block in Hong Kong on April 28, leading its Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy sale. (christies.com 1) (christies.com 2) The work is lot 654 in the live auction and carries an estimate of HK$20 million to HK$30 million. Christie’s lists it as a hanging scroll in ink on paper measuring 183 by 91.5 centimeters. (christies.com) Christie’s says the 85-lot sale also includes *Poem in Running Script* by Wang Shouren, *Reading in the Autumn Mountains* by Tang Yin and *Magnificent View of the Yangzi River* by Shen Zhou. The auction starts at 2 p.m. Hong Kong time. (christies.com 1) (christies.com 2) The Bada Shanren painting comes from an Important Asian Private Collection. Christie’s says it previously belonged to the Chang Foundation in Taipei and was exhibited at Hubei Provincial Museum from December 1, 2008, to July 31, 2009. (christies.com) That provenance helps explain why Christie’s is using the work to front its spring classical paintings sale. In its April 1 announcement, the house said *Twin Eagles* leads a group of “rare and important works” assembled for Hong Kong Asian Art Week. (christies.com) The sale sits inside Christie’s 2026 Spring Hong Kong Asian Art Week, which runs April 23 to April 29 and pairs the classical paintings auction on April 28 with a modern and contemporary ink sale on April 29. Christie’s says the two auctions together present around 270 works. (christies.com) Christie’s is also tying the week to a corporate milestone. The company says 2026 marks its 40th anniversary in Asia, and it is staging a year-long program of sales, exhibitions and events across the region. (christies.com)
