Huawei Unveils Autonomous Network Solution

At MWC Barcelona, Huawei's Cloud Core Network division is showcasing its updated ICNMaster solution for autonomous network management. The technology aims to reduce operational complexity and improve resilience for telecoms and cloud providers as they automate core infrastructure.

The global market for autonomous networks was valued at approximately $6.6 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow to over $30 billion by 2032. This growth is driven by the soaring complexity of telecom infrastructure due to 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), and the shift to cloud-native architectures. Telecom operators are facing intense pressure to reduce operational expenditures while improving network reliability. A key challenge is the persistence of legacy systems, which hinder modernization and efficiency. Network stability is a critical concern, with one study indicating that 42% of operators experienced core network service interruptions over the past three years. Huawei's ICNMaster solution utilizes a "Telecom Foundation Model," digital twin technology, and multi-agent collaboration to automate the entire network lifecycle, from planning and construction to maintenance and operations. This approach aims to shift network management from reactive problem-solving to proactive prevention. In commercial deployments with China Mobile, the system has demonstrated significant efficiency gains. An "alarm handling agent" reduced the average time to handle network alarm tickets from 90 minutes to 12, an 87% improvement. Similarly, a "complaint handling agent" cut the end-to-end processing time for customer complaints by over 64%. The push for automation is an industry-wide trend, with most telecom companies currently at a low level of network autonomy but with over 60% aiming to reach Level 3 or higher by 2028. Huawei's solution is designed to help operators accelerate their journey toward Level 4, or "high-stability," autonomous networks. Huawei is a major player in this competitive market, holding an estimated 12% market share, similar to Cisco Systems. Other key competitors developing autonomous network solutions include Ericsson, Nokia, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
