The return of the Bolt addresses a gap in GM's EV lineup, providing a more budget-friendly option after the discontinuation of the original Bolt. The new Bolt aims to recapture the affordability that made its predecessor popular. Production is slated to begin in 2025, utilizing Ultium battery technology. The decision to revive the Bolt came after initial plans to discontinue it in favor of other Ultium-based EVs. The 2027 Bolt EV will feature LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries, which are more cost-effective and don't require nickel or cobalt. This helps to keep the production costs, and therefore the car's price, down.
