Mantle Deploys New Ethereum Standard
Mantle, a platform focused on real-world assets, announced the deployment of the ERC-8004 standard on its mainnet. The new standard is designed to create a specialized trust and identity layer for AI. This development aims to help build what the company calls an "autonomous economy."
- The ERC-8004 standard is designed to give AI agents a verifiable on-chain identity and a portable reputation system, addressing what was previously a "visibility crisis" for on-chain AI agents. This is accomplished through three core on-chain registries: an Identity Registry for a unique NFT-based identity, a Reputation Registry to track performance history, and a Validation Registry for cryptographic proof of work. - This standard was co-authored by individuals from major web3 players, including Marco De Rossi of MetaMask, Davide Crapis from the Ethereum Foundation, Jordan Ellis from Google, and Erik Reppel of Coinbase. It extends the existing Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocol, aiming to become a foundational trust layer for machine-to-machine interactions on the blockchain. - Mantle positions itself as a distribution and liquidity layer for real-world assets (RWAs), and ERC-8004 is intended to allow AI agents to become sovereign economic participants in RWA, Traditional Finance (TradFi), and DeFi markets. The platform has a significant treasury, which peaked at over $7.9 billion, to help solve liquidity issues in the RWA sector. - Mantle Network is a modular Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solution that utilizes EigenLayer for data availability, which enhances scalability and reduces transaction costs. This architecture is designed to support institutional-grade, high-volume activity for tokenized assets like equities and treasury-backed products. - To foster its AI ecosystem, Mantle launched "Mantle AI Fest," a month-long event with a 1 million $MNT reward pool to encourage the development and adoption of AI-powered applications on its network. The company also has a $200 million "EcoFund" to back promising projects. - The ERC-8004 standard is designed to be blockchain-agnostic and can be deployed on any EVM-compatible network, allowing agents registered on one chain to operate and transact on others. The registries are intended to be lightweight to minimize gas costs for on-chain operations.
