Deadlock Gets Massive Balance Overhaul

Deadlock received its biggest hero balance changes yet with the March 6 patch, bringing sweeping adjustments to hero abilities, cooldowns, and overall game balance. The update aims to shake up competitive play and refresh the meta for both new and veteran players.

The March 6 patch was one of the largest in Deadlock's history, featuring over 850 lines of changes that touched nearly every hero on the roster. This massive update followed just six weeks after the "Old Gods, New Blood" update, signaling an accelerated pace of development and balance adjustments from developer Valve. Beyond individual hero tweaks, the update introduced significant systemic changes to game flow. After the 35-minute mark, minion waves now spawn every 20 seconds instead of 25, accelerating the late-game pace. Major objectives like Shrines and the Mid Boss now provide substantial soul bounties, creating new strategic priorities for teams. Movement mechanics received a universal buff, with players now able to jump during a slide and gaining increased air control from a dash jump. The patch also added two new neutral monster camps to the map and removed the item slot limit in the popular Street Brawl mode. Several heroes received substantial reworks to their abilities. Ivy's "Kudzu Connection" can now be upgraded to be permanently active, and her "Air Drop" ultimate has a significantly reduced cooldown from 100 to 65 seconds. Conversely, heroes like Abrams saw reductions in base bullet damage and ability ranges to bring their power level in line with the rest of the roster. A new Tier 1 item, the "Golden Goose Egg," was introduced, offering a unique trade-off. It penalizes the user with a 10% damage reduction but generates soul value over time, creating a new economic option for support-oriented characters. The update also targeted quality-of-life improvements, such as having the minimap now indicate whether the Urn is in a favored, neutral, or unfavored state. These changes aim to improve clarity and strategic decision-making at all levels of play.
