Superior Environmental Solutions Acquires ChemWorx
Superior Environmental Solutions (SES) has acquired ChemWorx, a provider of industrial chemical cleaning services. The deal, SES's sixth since 2017, expands its portfolio to include fin fan foaming and extends its service area in the Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisiana markets.
- SES is backed by Palladium Equity Partners, a private equity firm with over $3 billion in assets under management, which is executing a growth strategy through the acquisition of smaller, founder-owned industrial and environmental service providers. This acquisition of ChemWorx is SES's sixth since 2017 and its third under Palladium's ownership, which began in August 2023. - The deal adds a specialized "fin fan foaming" service to SES's portfolio, a technique that uses a thick, shaving cream-like chemical foam to clean delicate air-cooled condensers. This low-pressure, high-volume method is designed to remove performance-inhibiting debris without damaging the fragile fins, a common risk with traditional high-pressure washing. - The industrial cleaning services market is undergoing a period of concentration, with larger, private equity-backed companies acquiring smaller, specialized firms to gain market share and innovative technologies. The global market for these services was valued at over $417 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow to more than $631 billion by 2032. - This acquisition comes as the EPA is increasing its enforcement under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). In December 2024, the agency issued a final rule to ban most uses of trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE), common industrial cleaning solvents, creating new compliance challenges for manufacturers. - For manufacturing clients, a key regulatory development is OSHA's renewal of its National Emphasis Program (NEP) on Amputations in Manufacturing Industries in June 2025. This program targets inspections on machinery that is not properly guarded or maintained, a direct intersection with industrial cleaning and maintenance operations. - ChemWorx, a certified woman-owned business, brings licenses in Alabama and Tennessee and serves clients in the refining, petrochemical, automotive, and aerospace industries. Its leadership team, including Jim Schexnayder and John Hawkins, has a combined 100 years of experience in the industrial chemical cleaning sector. - The acquisition is part of SES's targeted expansion in the Southeast, following its largest acquisition to date of Alabama-based American Remediation & Environmental in January 2025, which added approximately 180 employees.
