Lido V3 Targets Institutional Staking with Kiln

Lido is launching its V3 upgrade in partnership with Kiln to target institutional Ethereum staking at scale. Kiln's stVaults will enable custodians, exchanges, and asset managers to offer regulated ETH staking services to their clients. The initiative aims to create a new pathway for institutional capital to access on-chain yield.

- Lido V3's core architectural change is the introduction of "stVaults," modular smart contracts that separate ETH deposits into independent, customizable vaults, a shift from V2's single-pool model. This allows for tailored staking configurations with specific node operators, fee structures, and risk parameters. - The new structure directly addresses institutional compliance needs by allowing for the selection of node operators based on jurisdiction or certifications, such as SOC 2 compliance. Kiln, a key partner, runs validators for these dedicated stVaults, ensuring assets are isolated and not commingled with other funds. - A key feature for institutions is the ability to stake ETH and access stETH's liquidity without holding the liquid staking token directly on their balance sheet, which can simplify accounting and custody. stVaults also allow for direct minting of wstETH, reducing gas costs and operational steps for DeFi integration. - The upgrade introduces a "safety hatch" mechanism, enabling a vault owner to opt out of future protocol upgrades, a feature that enhances self-sovereignty. This complements Lido's dual governance model, which allows stETH holders to react to protocol changes. - Kiln's infrastructure, which backs its stVaults, reports a 99.95% effective uptime with zero slashing incidents to date while programmatically staking over $11 billion in assets. - The launch of V3 comes as institutional demand for Ethereum staking has pushed the total amount of staked ETH to over 30% of the total supply, representing a value of more than $115 billion. - Lido V3's rollout is structured in three phases: an early adopter program for select partners, a testnet phase for broader testing, and then the full mainnet launch.
