Lisa Gelobter Appointed New NYC CTO

- Lisa Gelobter graduated from Brown University with a degree in Computer Science, concentrating in artificial intelligence and machine learning, and was part of the senior management team for the launch of the streaming service Hulu. - During the Obama administration, she served as the Chief Digital Service Officer for the U.S. Department of Education, where she led the team that built the College Scorecard, a tool that helped increase national college graduation rates by 1.5%. - As an entrepreneur, Gelobter founded tEQuitable, a platform designed to address workplace bias, harassment, and discrimination, and raised over $2 million in venture capital for the startup. - Her early career includes leading the development of Shockwave at Macromedia, a multimedia platform that was a forerunner to Flash and was instrumental in bringing animation and interactivity to the web. - Gelobter's focus on digital equity will address a significant need in the city, as approximately 30% of New York City households do not have both mobile and home broadband service. - The Chief Technology Officer role she is stepping into was consolidated under the Office of Technology & Innovation (OTI), which also oversees the Mayor's Office of Data Analytics (MODA) and NYC Cyber Command (NYC3). - She joins a city government that has recently launched a Digital Equity Roadmap and has been investing in initiatives like Big Apple Connect to provide free internet to residents in public housing.
