Elden Ring DLC Reviews Drop

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is getting widespread critical coverage with reviewers calling it "a must-play for veterans" that expands world-building and delivers challenging new bosses. Early consensus suggests FromSoftware has exceeded expectations for post-launch content.

With an aggregate score of 95 on Metacritic for its PlayStation 5 version, *Shadow of the Erdtree* has become the highest-rated DLC of all time, surpassing the previous record holder, *The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine*. The expansion is also currently the highest-rated game of 2024, outperforming titles like *Final Fantasy VII Rebirth*. The expansion was released on June 21, 2024, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The standard edition is priced at $39.99, a higher cost than many typical DLCs, reflecting its significant scale. Developer FromSoftware has called this its largest expansion to date, introducing a new map called the "Land of Shadow." While smaller than the base game's map, the new area is described as more dense and vertically layered, with a size comparable to *Elden Ring's* Limgrave and Liurnia regions combined. *Shadow of the Erdtree* adds a substantial amount of new content, including eight new weapon categories, dozens of new weapons and spells, and over 40 bosses. Of these, at least 10 are considered major "remembrance" bosses. To access the new content, players must have defeated two specific bosses in the main game: Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. The entrance to the DLC is located in the Mohgwyn Palace area.
