Ghostwriting Agencies Struggling

@Aidanb2b predicts ghostwriting agencies will struggle in 2026 without full marketing pipelines — lead magnets, DM setters, newsletters. The post hit 14 likes and 851 views with 7 replies, citing AI's growing role in the industry. Traditional agency models are getting disrupted by both technology and direct client-writer connections.

The global ghostwriting market is projected to grow annually between 6 and 8 percent, with some reports valuing the market at approximately $3.3 billion in 2024 and forecasting it to reach about $6.2 billion by 2032. This expansion is fueled by rising demand for business content, personal branding, and self-publishing. AI has drastically altered the cost of content, with some estimates showing a drop from $20 per page for human writers to as low as $0.12 per page for AI-generated text. This economic pressure has led 94% of content agencies to adopt a hybrid model, combining generative AI with human editors for their final products. Despite AI's prevalence, its role is often supportive. A 2025 study by Gotham Ghostwriters found that while 61% of writers use AI for tasks like research and brainstorming, only 7% use it to generate final content. Most ghostwriters see AI as an assistant for transcribing interviews and summarizing research rather than as a replacement for human writing. A clear market division is emerging between premium, human-only content and lower-cost, AI-assisted work. Many traditional publishers refuse to accept AI-generated manuscripts, and such works cannot be copyrighted by the Library of Congress, placing them in the public domain. Specialized niches are seeing a boom in smaller, more focused agencies. The number of LinkedIn ghostwriting agencies, for instance, grew from around 50 in 2023 to more than 200 in 2026, as founders shift budgets from paid ads to organic content. In response, many individual ghostwriters are focusing on building strong personal brands to signal expertise and command higher fees. This strategy allows them to attract clients directly, bypassing the traditional agency model and competing on unique skills rather than price.
