Toyota launches bZ4X Touring EV
- Toyota Motor Europe said on May 13 it added the bZ4X Touring to its battery-electric lineup, a larger, more powerful version of the bZ4X. - The headline spec is 380 DIN horsepower, or 280 kilowatts, in all-wheel-drive form, which Toyota said makes it its most powerful non-GR BEV. - Toyota said the bZ4X Touring is scheduled to reach Europe in spring 2026, with details posted in its European newsroom.
Toyota Motor Europe has added a longer, taller version of its bZ4X electric SUV to the lineup as it pushes to broaden its battery-electric range in Europe. The company said on May 13 that the new bZ4X Touring was designed for “outdoor and adventure lifestyles” and would offer more cargo space and a higher-output all-wheel-drive option than the standard model. The launch came days after Toyota Motor Corp. reported fiscal-year 2026 revenue of 50.7 trillion yen and net income of 3.85 trillion yen for the year ended March 31, 2026. ### How is the Touring different from the regular bZ4X? Toyota Europe said the Touring is 140 millimeters longer and 20 millimeters higher than the regular bZ4X, taking overall length to 4,830 mm and height to 1,670 mm. Those changes lift cargo capacity by 33%, or 148 liters, to 600 liters, according to the company. A 40:60 split-folding rear seat is part of the package, and Toyota said the added space was intended to handle family luggage and leisure or sports equipment. (newsroom.toyota.eu) The company described the model as an extension of the existing bZ4X rather than a separate nameplate. ### What does Toyota mean by its most powerful non-GR battery EV? Toyota Europe said the bZ4X Touring will be offered in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, with the top all-wheel-drive model producing 380 DIN hp, or 280 kW. (newsroom.toyota.eu) That figure is above the 343 DIN hp, or 252 kW, Toyota cited for the updated standard bZ4X all-wheel-drive model unveiled in March 2025. The Touring uses a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, Toyota said, and the company listed a maximum WLTP driving range of up to 560 kilometers. Toyota also said the all-wheel-drive version uses XMODE drive control and Grip Control for added traction on loose or rough surfaces. ### Where does this fit in Toyota’s broader Europe EV plan? Toyota Europe said in March 2025 that it was expanding its battery-electric range across Europe’s core B-, C- and D-SUV segments. (newsroom.toyota.eu) The Touring joins the revised bZ4X, the Urban Cruiser and the Toyota C-HR+ in that plan, according to the company. Toyota Europe also said it expects its Toyota and Lexus battery-electric lineup in Europe to reach 12 models in 2026. (newsroom.toyota.eu) The company has continued to frame that expansion within its broader “multi-pathway” strategy rather than a battery-only approach. ### Why mention Toyota’s latest financial results alongside a model launch? Toyota Motor Corp. said on May 8 that fiscal-year 2026 operating revenue was 50.7 trillion yen. (newsroom.toyota.eu) The company’s investor relations site lists FY2026 financial materials released that day, and Toyota’s presentation said operating income for the year was 3.8 trillion yen. (toyota-europe.com) The same FY2026 materials said net income attributable to Toyota Motor Corp. was 3.85 trillion yen. In the press briefing notice, Toyota listed Operating Officer and President Kenta Kon and Executive Vice President Yoichi Miyazaki among the attendees. ### Is this a Europe-only launch for now? Toyota Europe said the bZ4X Touring is scheduled for introduction in Europe in spring 2026. (global.toyota) The company’s European newsroom carried the model release, while Toyota’s global newsroom on May 14 highlighted other product news, including a Japan-market Land Cruiser “FJ” launch, rather than a separate global bZ4X Touring announcement. (global.toyota) Pricing was not included in the European release. Toyota said further model details would be announced closer to the market introduction in spring 2026. (newsroom.toyota.eu)
