Essence Fest Headliners Announced
Cardi B, Brandy, and Monica will headline the 2026 Essence Festival announced. Patti LaBelle, Kehlani, and Latto will also perform.
The Essence Festival is a major economic driver for New Orleans, generating between $200 and $300 million annually. Since 2022, the festival has generated nearly $1 billion in economic impact for the city. The event draws hundreds of thousands of visitors and is considered the largest African-American culture and music event in the United States. However, some local Black business owners feel excluded, arguing that Essence Fest uses New Orleans as a venue without making specific impacts on the community. While the average attendee spends around $3,000 during the festival, this is roughly two months of income for a Black New Orleanian. A 2024 study found that approximately $70 million "leaked" out of the local New Orleans economy. This year's headliners reflect a mix of established and contemporary artists, potentially appealing to a broad audience. The daytime events at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center are free, while concert tickets are required for the evening performances at the Caesars Superdome. Essence encourages attendees to use the E360 app to personalize their festival experience. Sponsors for the Essence Festival have included Coca-Cola, Amazon MGM Studios, Disney, and Dove. Penguin Random House is a first-time sponsor in 2025, hosting authors and events at the festival. Target was a sponsor in the past, but the partnership led to criticism and boycotts due to the company's diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
