Cam Levins Targets Tokyo Marathon Record

Canadian marathoner Cam Levins is aiming to break his own national record at the upcoming Tokyo Marathon, hoping to further lower his time and continue his ascent among elite international runners. His recent training indicates he'll be a top contender in Tokyo, a race renowned for fast times and competitive fields.

Cam Levins is no stranger to rewriting the Canadian record books. He first broke the 43-year-old national marathon record in his debut at the 2018 Toronto Waterfront Marathon, finishing in 2:09:25. Since then, he has lowered the mark on two other occasions. His current Canadian record of 2:05:36 was set at the 2023 Tokyo Marathon, where he finished fifth. That performance also broke the North American record at the time. Just a month before that race, he set a new Canadian record in the half marathon with a time of 1:00:18. The Tokyo Marathon is one of the six World Marathon Majors and is known for its fast course. The current men's course record is a blistering 2:02:16, set by Benson Kipruto in 2024. Levins will face a stacked elite field in Tokyo. The competition includes multiple runners with personal bests under 2:03, such as Kenya's Timothy Kiplagat (2:02:55) and Alexander Mutiso (2:03:11). The field also features defending champion Tadese Takele of Ethiopia.
