Sofia Goggia Dominates Super-G
Italian skier Sofia Goggia won her second super-G of the season to regain a commanding lead in World Cup discipline standings. The victory puts her in prime position for the discipline title as the alpine season winds down.
With her victory in Soldeu, Andorra on March 1, 2026, Sofia Goggia showcased her signature aggressive style. She finished with a time of 1:25.95, a comeback from a sixth-place finish in the super-G on the same hill just a day prior. The Italian skier's triumph wasn't without a tough fight. Germany's Emma Aicher, who had won the previous day's race, was ahead of Goggia's pace at the second time sector before a couple of mistakes in the technical mid-section of the course cost her the lead. Aicher finished in second place, just 0.24 seconds behind Goggia, while Norway's Kajsa Vickhoff Lie secured the third spot on the podium. This victory marks Goggia's second super-G win of the 2025-2026 season and the ninth of her career in this discipline. While she has an impressive four downhill crystal globes to her name, most recently in 2023, she is still in pursuit of her very first season title in super-G. With only two super-G races left in the season, Goggia has extended her lead in the discipline standings to 84 points over New Zealand's Alice Robinson and 116 points over Germany's Emma Aicher. With a win being worth 100 points, her commanding lead puts her in a prime position to finally capture the elusive super-G crystal globe.
