Tenafly Restaurant Named a Top North Jersey Spot

Spring House, a new restaurant in Tenafly opened by former New Yorker Jonathan Krieger, has been recognized as one of North Jersey's top dining destinations. The restaurant is known for its globally-inspired menu and communal dining atmosphere, adding a notable new option to the local food scene.

The restaurant is housed in the Demarest-Lyle House, a 230-year-old building on the National Register of Historic Places and the oldest home in Tenafly. The space has been renovated to include distinct dining areas like a retro bar, a supper club, and a secluded cocktail lounge with a "Roaring Twenties" feel. Owner Jon Krieger, a venture developer who moved to Tenafly during the pandemic, aimed to create a "community magnet" for the town. To move his vision forward in the face of a "don't-rock-the-boat attitude," he was elected president of the Tenafly Chamber of Commerce. Krieger's other local business ventures have included the vegan Chinese restaurant Fat Choy in Englewood. The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Paolo Frolo, who has a Michelin-starred background. Born and trained in Naples, his culinary experience includes apprenticeships in Italy, France, Germany, and England, as well as serving as executive chef at prominent New York City restaurants. Chef Frolo's menu is influenced by Mediterranean and European cuisine, with a particular focus on classic Roman dishes. He emphasizes using fresh, seasonal ingredients, shopping daily for produce and sourcing from select purveyors. The menu features dishes like Cotoletta alla Milanese, Spaghetti Pomodoro, and crispy fried Artichokes "alla Giudia."
