Fremont’s Downtown Event Center will host an artists’ pop-up market and returning Makerspace on Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (tricityvoice.com) Fremont Creates said more than 20 local artists will sell work directly to the public at the event, which closes out the city’s April is Arts, Culture and Creativity Month. The market is listed at the Fremont Downtown Event Center, also called DTEC. (tricityvoice.com) The April 26 program also includes the Makerspace for “kids of all ages” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fremont Creates’ event page says two adult hands-on workshops are planned as well. (fremontcreates.com) This year’s market is new, while the Makerspace is returning. Fremont Creates is framing the event as the wrap-up to a monthlong slate of arts programming spread across April. (fremontcreates.com) That monthlong slate includes student art displays, public yarn installations and other community events on the Fremont Creates calendar. Tri-City Voice reported earlier this year that the April 26 visual arts event was one of the two major Fremont Creates gatherings planned for the month. (fremontcreates.com) (tricityvoice.com) The event is part market and part hands-on activity. Fremont Creates said visitors can browse local art, join workshops and spend time in the Makerspace in one stop downtown. (tricityvoice.com) Tri-City Voice also reported that live jazz is planned during the market and that Wadaiko Newark taiko drummers will perform outdoors. A separate Fremont Creates notice said the Newark Saxophone Quartet is also part of the celebration. (tricityvoice.com 1) (tricityvoice.com 2) For artists, Fremont Creates opened registration for the market with a $50 deposit that the group said would be returned after the event if participation requirements are met. The public-facing event page says local artists are invited to display and sell their work. (fremontcreates.com 1) (fremontcreates.com 2) The April 26 gathering follows a free “Downtown Dance” event at the same venue on Saturday, April 25, giving Fremont a two-day arts weekend at DTEC. By Sunday afternoon, Fremont Creates plans to close the month with artists, workshops and a Makerspace under one roof. (tricityvoice.com)
