- Yan Sun is a Professor of Art Emeritus at Muskingum University and holds the distinction of being a signature artist with the National Oil & Acrylic Painters' Society (NOAPS), as well as the Oil Painters of America (OPA) and the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA). - His journey as an artist is deeply shaped by his life experiences, including being forced to work in a coal mine during China's Cultural Revolution before coming to the United States. This background informs the blend of Western and Eastern influences seen in his work. - In 2023, two of Sun's paintings were selected for NOAPS exhibitions: "Harbor in Capri Island, Italy" was featured in the "Best of America Small Works International Juried Exhibition," and "Summertime" was included in the "2023 Best of America International Juried Exhibition." - In addition to his national recognition, Sun is a prominent figure in the Zanesville art community, having co-founded the Yan Sun Art Museum & Gallery in a historic Art Deco building downtown. - The Zanesville Museum of Art has recognized Sun's contributions to the local and broader art community by naming its "Diverse Cultures" gallery the "Yan Sun Diverse Cultures Gallery." - His work covers a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, marine scenes, and themes inspired by his past as a dancer, and his paintings are held in the permanent collections of several museums. - Recently, five of his paintings were selected by the America 250-Ohio Commission to be part of an exhibition in Columbus celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States, where they will be on display until 2026.
