AI Speech Analysis Enters At-Home Caregiving
Canary Speech, a company specializing in AI-driven vocal biomarker technology, has partnered with JubileeTV to bring its technology to the consumer health market. The collaboration aims to provide families with early insights into the emotional and cognitive wellness of relatives by analyzing natural conversations in at-home care settings.
- Canary Speech's technology analyzes acoustic and linguistic patterns in natural speech to generate non-diagnostic scores related to mood, stress, energy, and cognitive patterns. This marks the first application of its clinically-grounded technology in a consumer, at-home setting rather than a clinical one. - The AI analysis is integrated into JubileeTV's existing video call feature, operating in the background of conversations between seniors and their families. The process is opt-in, requiring consent from both the older adult and the family administrator, and voice analysis only occurs during enabled JubileeTV calls. - JubileeTV's platform is designed for seniors and their caregivers, using the television as a central hub for communication. Its features include simplifying the TV experience, remote troubleshooting, full-screen video calling, and on-screen reminders for medication and appointments. - Provo, Utah-based Canary Speech secured $13 million in a Series A funding round in June 2024, led by Cortes Capital. The company holds nine patents for the use of vocal biomarkers in healthcare. - Vocal biomarkers are measurable characteristics of speech that can be linked to underlying physiological or psychological conditions. Canary's technology analyzes up to 2,548 features in speech, and a 40-second sample can produce thousands of data points. - To protect privacy, the system processes short audio snippets to generate insights and then deletes them. No voice recordings are stored, no identifiable information is shared, and the voice data is not used for training AI models. - Beyond the JubileeTV partnership, Canary Speech's technology is used in clinical settings to screen for conditions like anxiety, depression, and dementia, often before symptoms are noticeable. The company is also exploring applications for PTSD and Multiple Sclerosis. - JubileeTV, formerly known as Caavo, was initially focused on a broader consumer market for simplifying home theater systems before pivoting to focus on the senior care market, a shift influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
