Girls in Tourism Association Africa is scheduled to launch on April 24 at the Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board in Mengo, Kampala, with a program built around girls’ participation in tourism. (sotwe.com) The event listing says the launch will run from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board conference hall, under the themes of empowerment, tourism promotion and culture. (sotwe.com) Promotional posts describe a format that mixes heritage experiences with conservation activities, including guided cultural touring and tree planting, instead of a conference-only launch. (sotwe.com) On its website, Girls in Tourism Association Africa says it aims to create a safe environment for girls in tourism, build practical skills for tourism and hospitality, and connect youth initiatives across Africa under one network. (gitaafrica.org) The Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board, which is hosting the launch, markets cultural sites including the Kasubi Tombs and says it operates from Bulange, Mengo, as part of a broader heritage-tourism push in Buganda. (tourbuganda.org) That host institution has also spent the past month promoting Miss Tourism Buganda 2026, a kingdom-backed pageant that opened registration across all 18 counties of Buganda and framed tourism as a platform for young women. (bugandauk.com) Uganda’s tourism trade umbrella says women make up 60% of the sector’s workforce among its member associations, while community tourism and crafts groups report especially high female participation. (utauganda.org) The same industry snapshot says tourism contributed $2.8 billion, or 5.5% of Uganda’s gross domestic product, in 2023, with 610,000 direct jobs and 1.274 million international arrivals. (utauganda.org) Uganda’s official Tourism Satellite Account report, published in March 2025 for calendar year 2023, also describes tourism as a major source of jobs and foreign exchange, giving groups focused on training and entry pathways a larger sector to recruit into. (ubos.org) If the April 24 launch goes ahead as advertised, it will put Girls in Tourism Association Africa inside an ecosystem in Buganda that is already tying culture, youth programming and women’s participation to tourism growth.
