Startups Raised $2.4B Last Week
Venture capitalists deployed $2.4 billion globally in the first week of March, with space tech and AI infrastructure deals each topping $500 million. The heavy investment in platforms that connect the physical and digital worlds indicates strong investor confidence in the broader location intelligence space.
The two largest space tech deals were secured by companies focused on developing commercial space stations. Sierra Space raised $550 million, led by LuminArx Capital Management, while Vast brought in $500 million, with Balerion Space Ventures as the lead investor. The AI infrastructure investment is part of a much larger trend; AI startups raised an unprecedented $189 billion in February 2026, a record for any single sector in one month. This week, British AI infrastructure firm Nscale added another $2 billion to the pile in a Series C round that included tech giants like NVIDIA and Dell. Investor confidence is backed by strong market growth projections for location intelligence, which is expected to expand from a $25.14 billion market in 2025 to $104.05 billion by 2034. This represents a compound annual growth rate of 17.1% as industries from logistics to retail increasingly rely on spatial data. The health and fitness app market, a key vertical for mobile analytics, is projected to reach $13.81 billion in 2026. Growth is driven by the integration of AI for personalized workouts and the increasing adoption of wearable devices that feed location and activity data into these platforms. Professional sports teams are actively leveraging location data to deepen fan engagement. By analyzing data from mobile tickets and in-stadium purchases, teams can offer personalized promotions and create targeted advertising opportunities for sponsors within specific venue zones. In gaming, location-based entertainment (LBE) is a growing sector, with companies like Niantic, the creator of Pokémon GO, and Sandbox VR, which has generated over $50 million from its "Squid Game" virtual reality experience, blending digital gameplay with real-world locations.
