OpenAI's Record-Breaking Funding

OpenAI's latest funding round has been confirmed at $110 billion, a figure roughly four times the size of the largest IPO in history. The massive capital injection is reshaping the global AI race and setting a new benchmark for private technology investment.

This latest capital raise is composed of significant investments from major tech players, with Amazon committing $50 billion, and both Nvidia and SoftBank contributing $30 billion each. The deal elevates OpenAI's pre-money valuation to $730 billion, and a fully diluted valuation to $840 billion. The world's largest IPO to date was Saudi Aramco in 2019, which raised $29.4 billion. OpenAI's new $110 billion funding round is nearly four times larger than this record-breaking public offering, highlighting a massive shift in capital towards private AI development. This funding is part of a broader, frenetic investment pace in artificial intelligence. In 2025, AI-focused companies attracted nearly half of all global venture capital funding. Competitors are also raising substantial funds, with Anthropic securing a $13 billion round at a $183 billion valuation, and Elon Musk's xAI raising over $5 billion. The investments from Amazon and Nvidia are not just financial but also deeply strategic. OpenAI will utilize Amazon's custom Trainium AI chips and AWS will become the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI's enterprise platform, Frontier. Similarly, the deal with Nvidia secures access to its next-generation "Rubin" architecture for AI model training and inference. This massive infusion of capital is earmarked to cover the immense costs of computing power and research and development needed to stay ahead in the AI race. OpenAI is projecting revenues to reach $280 billion by 2030 and has a planned computational resource spend of $600 billion by the same year. While this funding round is private, it comes ahead of an anticipated mega-IPO from OpenAI later this year. The company's user base continues to grow, with its flagship product, ChatGPT, now boasting over 900 million weekly active users.
