Texas Tech Sweeps Big 12 Track

Texas Tech swept the 2026 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships, breaking multiple records along the way. The team's dominant performance in both sprints and field events positions them as national contenders heading into the outdoor season. The record-breaking meet underscores their strength across multiple disciplines.

The victory marked the fourth consecutive Big 12 indoor title for the Texas Tech men and the second straight for the women's team. This continued dominance under coach Wes Kittley has brought a total of 18 Big 12 titles to the program. The men's team scored 125 points in a nail-biter finish, edging out Kansas State by a single point. The women secured their win with 114.5 points, holding off a strong challenge from BYU, who finished with 110 points. Malachi Snow was the meet's High Point Performer, single-handedly scoring 20 points for the men's team. He achieved this by winning both the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.43 seconds and the 60m dash in 6.46 seconds, setting a new meet record in the latter. Multiple school records fell for the Red Raiders. Tonie-Ann Forbes set a new Texas Tech record in the women's 60m hurdles with a blistering time of 7.91. On the men's side, Jonathan Sermes tied the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 16.96m, a mark that also leads the NCAA. Individual champions for Texas Tech also included George Garcia in the 600yd (1:08.14) and Stephen Mutai in the 800m (1:48.23). For the women, Ruta Lasmane captured her second indoor crown in the triple jump with a mark of 13.79m. The foundation of the men's victory was their dominance in the sprints, where they racked up a total of 76 points. The women's team, meanwhile, found their strength in the field events, which contributed 59.5 points to their winning total. A historic moment came from Temitope Adeshina, who won her third-straight indoor high jump title with a clearance of 1.96m. This not only set a new meet record but also made her the first female athlete in Big 12 history to win three consecutive titles in the event since Kansas' Rylee Anderson (2021-23).
