Madison residents have until Thursday, April 30, to help name a new mural at the Madison Senior Center. (cityofmadison.com) The naming contest was announced April 13, and the Madison Senior Center Foundation said the winning entry will be chosen by the foundation and added to a plaque beside the artwork. (cityofmadison.com) Entries are due by midnight on April 30 through a SurveyMonkey form the center linked in its April 2026 newsletter. The same notice said the mural is headed to the center’s dining site. (cityofmadison.com) The contest is the latest public step in a mural project that started with community surveys in late 2025. City officials said respondents wanted a work that felt welcoming and peaceful. (cityofmadison.com) That survey process was built into the project from the start. A December 19, 2025 city announcement said the West Mifflin Community Mural grew out of requests for a brighter, more engaging space for dining and programming at the senior center. (cityofmadison.com) The city said Developing Artists, Murals, and Alliances, or DAMA, organized the survey, and staff planned public painting events for March and April 2026 before a June unveiling. (cityofmadison.com) By April 13, the center said those painting days had already happened in late March with DAMA and local artist Emily Rodriguez. The city’s news release said the finished mural had not yet been unveiled. (cityofmadison.com) District 3 Alder Derek Field’s weekly city update for April 20 pointed residents back to the contest this week, extending the push for submissions beyond the center’s own channels. The mural is still slated to greet visitors for years to come; now the public gets to supply the name. (cityofmadison.com)
