Axel Springer Buys Bisnow
German media giant Axel Springer has acquired Bisnow, a leading B2B media and events company focused on commercial real estate. The deal marks a significant expansion for Axel Springer into the U.S. B2B market.
This acquisition brings a significant events-focused business into Axel Springer's portfolio. Bisnow hosts more than 350 events annually, connecting a readership of over 11 million professionals within the commercial real estate industry across more than 50 markets in North America and Europe. The company has an estimated annual revenue of $54.3 million. The move aligns with Axel Springer's long-stated strategy of expanding its footprint in the English-speaking world, particularly the United States. CEO Mathias Döpfner has been vocal about this goal for years, viewing the U.S. as a key market for growth in digital journalism. Bisnow joins a growing roster of prominent U.S. media brands owned by the German giant. This portfolio already includes POLITICO, which it acquired for over $1 billion in 2021, as well as Business Insider and Morning Brew. The acquisition is part of a broader digital transformation for Axel Springer, a process Döpfner has spearheaded for two decades. The company has shifted from a traditional print publisher to a digital-first media enterprise, with digital operations now accounting for the vast majority of its revenue.
