MLB Tiebreaker Rules Updated
New MLB tiebreaker rules for the World Baseball Classic clarify advancement from pool play Sporting News. Six teams are already through, two spots remain MLB.com.
The first tiebreaker is head-to-head record among the tied teams. If teams still can't be separated, the next tiebreaker is fewest runs allowed per inning played on defense in the games among the tied teams. If a tie still exists, the tiebreaker moves to fewest earned runs allowed per inning played on defense in games among the tied teams. After that, it's highest batting average in games among the tied teams. The final tiebreaker involves a coin flip. These tiebreaker rules apply to pool play in the World Baseball Classic, determining which teams advance to the next round.
