Home Assistant Adds Kaiterra Sensor API Support
Home Assistant has merged support for kaiterra-async-client v1.1.0, showing continued open-source smart home integration evolution. Users running Home Assistant and leveraging open APIs for air quality or environmental sensing should update to ensure compatibility and bug fixes.
Home Assistant is a free and open-source software for home automation, emphasizing local control and privacy. It serves as a central smart home hub, integrating devices from various manufacturers and brands. The platform allows users to control and automate smart home devices from a single point, without relying on cloud services. Kaiterra produces air quality monitors for both commercial and residential use, including the Sensedge and Laser Egg series. These devices measure pollutants like particulate matter, VOCs, carbon dioxide, temperature, and humidity. Kaiterra sensors often feature a modular design, allowing users to replace sensor modules for calibration and to adapt to new monitoring capabilities. The Kaiterra integration in Home Assistant allows users to view readings from Kaiterra devices via the Kaiterra REST API. To use the integration, users need an API key from the Kaiterra dashboard and the device's UUID. Once configured, the integration displays sensor data within the Home Assistant interface. Home Assistant has seen substantial growth in recent years, becoming the top open-source project on GitHub by contributors in 2024. As of December 2025, it was running in over 2 million households. The project is maintained by the Open Home Foundation, a non-profit organization.
