Bybit Co-CEO Helen Liu Resigns
Helen Liu, the co-CEO of crypto exchange Bybit, will depart the company on April 30, 2026. Liu is leaving the world's second-largest exchange by trading volume to pursue her own entrepreneurial ambitions.
Helen Liu's promotion to co-CEO in 2025 marked a swift ascent within Bybit, which she joined in 2020. Her tenure at the company included roles as Vice President of Human Resources, VP of Marketing, Chief of Staff, and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to Bybit, Liu held HR leadership positions at major tech companies like Nokia and Microsoft. Co-founder and CEO Ben Zhou will continue to lead the company, and Bybit has stated it does not intend to fill the co-CEO position. In a statement, Zhou praised Liu as an "extraordinary partner" who was instrumental in shaping the company's culture and guiding it through periods of significant growth and challenges. Under Liu's co-leadership, Bybit's user base grew to over 82 million across more than 181 countries. The exchange also solidified its position as the world's second-largest by trading volume. In October 2025, the platform reported an average daily trading volume exceeding $23 billion across its various products. Just weeks before her resignation announcement, Liu was involved in launching the "Golden Season" initiative in partnership with Tether. The program, offering over $1 million in gold-backed rewards, was designed to promote the adoption of tokenized gold among more cautious crypto investors in response to market volatility. Beyond her corporate roles, Liu founded the Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA), a network focused on using blockchain technology to address social and environmental issues. She also founded Moledao, a platform that supports blockchain developers with educational and career resources. Liu's departure comes after Bybit achieved several key regulatory milestones in 2025. These include securing a Virtual Asset Platform Operator License in the UAE and obtaining a MiCA license in Austria, which aligns with European crypto regulations.
