Salvation Army Launches Digital Thrift Store on Roblox

The Salvation Army has launched "Thrift Score," described as the world's first digital thrift store on the Roblox platform. The initiative is designed to introduce the organization's thrift brand to a new generation of users, specifically Gen Z and Gen Alpha. This marks the iconic charity's entry into the metaverse.

- The "Thrift Score" experience was conceived and led by the independent agency BarkleyOKRP and developed in collaboration with the immersive game studio The Gang. - Proceeds from the digital sales support The Salvation Army's real-world mission, which includes rehabilitation, recovery, and community programs nationwide. In 2023, the organization assisted nearly 24 million people. - Rather than a standalone game, the digital thrift store is integrated into already popular Roblox environments, including "Seaboard City" and "Daycare Party," to meet players in spaces they already frequent. - The virtual store features limited-edition items and user-generated content from prominent Roblox creators like @PrestonPlayz, @BriannaPlayz, and @RussoPlays, who have donated designs. - Players can browse digital replicas of actual items found in Salvation Army stores and also donate their own digital designs, which are then turned into shoppable outfits for avatars. - The initiative launched on February 19, 2026, and is designed to replicate the "surprise and delight" of real-life thrifting for a platform with a massive user base of Gen Z and Gen Alpha. - Roblox has become a significant platform for brands to engage with younger audiences, with 48% of Americans aged 13-24 using the platform as of 2022. Other non-profits, like Comic Relief US, have also launched experiences on the platform to engage users in philanthropy.
