Saverne Opens Hudson Yards
Gabriel Kreuther just opened Saverne in Hudson Yards, featuring live-fire cooking and à la carte menus. The new spot brings Kreuther's refined approach to a prime NYC location, adding another high-end dining option to the growing Hudson Yards food scene.
The restaurant's name, Saverne, is a nod to a historic town in chef Gabriel Kreuther's native Alsace region of France. This connection to his heritage is a guiding principle for the new venture, which he describes as a "return to his roots." The menu is deeply influenced by Alsatian cuisine, known for its blend of French and Germanic traditions, featuring dishes like tartes flambées alongside wood-fired creations. Saverne is located in The Spiral, a 66-story office tower at 66 Hudson Boulevard. The 145-seat restaurant was designed with an open kitchen to showcase the wood-fire grills, a dramatic green quartzite bar, and warm wood accents throughout the high-ceilinged space. For a closer look at the action, twelve counter seats are available in the east dining room. This opening marks a significant follow-up to Kreuther's eponymous fine-dining restaurant, which holds two Michelin stars and recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. While his first restaurant is known for its tasting menus, Saverne will offer a more grounded, à la carte dining experience, a shift Kreuther says reflects changing diner preferences. Before opening his own restaurants, Kreuther honed his skills in Michelin-starred kitchens across Europe and in prominent New York establishments. He served as executive chef at The Modern, located in the Museum of Modern Art, and also worked at La Caravelle and Jean-Georges. His accolades include a James Beard Foundation Award for "Best Chef: New York City" in 2009. Saverne joins a vibrant and competitive dining landscape in the $20 billion Hudson Yards development, which first opened in 2019. The neighborhood is already home to establishments from other world-renowned chefs such as José Andrés, David Chang, and Michael Lomonaco.
