Amazon moves on GLP‑1s
- Amazon launched a program offering GLP-1 weight-loss drugs with same-day delivery in nearly 3,000 cities. - Prices start around $299 per month for injectables, with expansion plans for more cities and additional pricing options reported. - Faster, cheaper GLP-1 access shifts the wellness landscape toward convenience, pushing studios and coaches to emphasise non-medical services (marketscreener.com, marketscreener.com, stocktwits.com)
Amazon has started selling weight-loss treatment through One Medical and Amazon Pharmacy, tying a GLP-1 prescription to same-day delivery in thousands of U.S. cities. (cnbc.com) The program launched on April 21 and covers telehealth evaluation, ongoing obesity care and prescription fulfillment through Amazon’s pharmacy business. CNBC reported prices start as low as $25 a month with insurance, while Amazon’s public weight-loss page says a clinician decides whether a GLP-1 is appropriate. (cnbc.com, health.amazon.com) Amazon is pitching speed as much as price. Amazon Pharmacy says same-day delivery is already available in many locations, and the company said in February that it plans to expand same-day prescription delivery to nearly 4,500 U.S. cities and towns by the end of 2026. (pharmacy.amazon.com, aboutamazon.com) GLP-1 drugs mimic a gut hormone that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar, which is why drugs first used for diabetes became major obesity treatments. One Medical’s own explainer points patients to medicines such as Wegovy and Zepbound, two of the best-known prescription brands in the category. (onemedical.com, health.amazon.com) The move puts Amazon deeper into a market that had already been shifting from specialist clinics toward consumer-style platforms. Amazon Pharmacy said in December that it had helped customers save more than $100 million by automatically applying manufacturer coupons on eligible drugs, including some diabetes treatments. (aboutamazon.com) It also lands as drugmakers push to widen access and lower sticker shock. Novo Nordisk said in February that it plans to cut U.S. list prices by up to 50% starting January 1, 2027, with Wegovy set to fall to $675 a month. (cnbc.com) Amazon has been building the delivery side of this for more than a year. In 2024 it said it would more than double the number of cities with same-day prescription service, and in April 2026 CNBC reported Amazon would also stock Eli Lilly’s new weight-loss pill at kiosks in some primary-care clinics. (aboutamazon.com, cnbc.com) For patients, the pitch is simple: doctor visit, prescription and delivery inside one Amazon system. For rivals in telehealth, wellness coaching and boutique weight-loss services, the pressure point is the same one Amazon uses everywhere else — convenience. (cnbc.com, aboutamazon.com)
