Mets' Peralta Extension Coming
Freddy Peralta's extension with the Mets is "inevitable" according to Locked On Mets, with a projected 6-year, $140 million deal expected before Opening Day. Peralta dominated his spring debut, retiring nine batters in order with three strikeouts on just 29 pitches across three innings.
The New York Mets acquired Freddy Peralta in a January 2026 trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sending prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat to Milwaukee. The deal also brought pitcher Tobias Myers to New York. The trade was a significant move in a busy offseason for the Mets, who also added Bo Bichette and Luis Robert Jr. Peralta is currently in the final year of a team-friendly five-year, $15.5 million contract extension he signed with the Brewers in 2020. He is slated to earn $8 million for the 2026 season before being eligible for free agency. This contract was widely considered one of the best bargains in baseball. The right-hander is coming off a career-best season in 2025, where he finished fifth in the National League Cy Young Award voting. He posted a 17-6 record with a 2.70 ERA and 204 strikeouts over 176.2 innings pitched. The move to acquire and extend Peralta signals the Mets' intention to build a formidable starting rotation. He joins a staff that is expected to feature pitchers like Nolan McLean, Sean Manaea, and Kodai Senga. The Mets view Peralta as a legitimate No. 1 starter to lead their rotation.
