Pleasanton Gas Station Owner Retires

After many years, Kim Do is retiring this month from her ownership of the historic downtown Pleasanton Gas Station reported. Do fondly recalls her time at the station, saying it felt like stepping back in time. This marks the end of an era for a beloved local business.

The Pleasanton Gas Station, originally named Guanzarolis' Associated Service Station, stands as a landmark with a rich history dating back to the 1920s and 1930s when family-owned gas stations began to emerge in Pleasanton. Automobiles started appearing in Pleasanton around 1900, making the construction of the gas station at 122 Main Street a necessity. The gas station is known for its vintage charm and dedication to maintaining Pleasanton's culture, offering excellent service and competitive gas prices. It is a family-owned business that treats each customer like a friend, creating a welcoming atmosphere. In 1931, John Amaral built the current gas station in the Mission Revival style for $5,000 after the Victorian-style Germania Hotel, later known as the Pleasanton Hotel, was torn down. The station has been a downtown mainstay for years, recognized by locals as a historic landmark. For many years, the gas station has displayed business cards in its windows, providing a free advertising boost for local businesses. The Pleasanton Downtown Association supports over 500 businesses in the core commercial area and helps promote a vibrant downtown community.
