36 Million Pounds Chicken Recalled for Glass
A massive 36 million pounds of chicken fried rice and related products have been recalled nationwide due to glass fragments found in the food. Trader Joe's is recalling multiple products including chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and dumplings. This marks one of the largest food recalls of the year, with consumers urged to check freezers and refrigerators immediately.
The recall originated with consumer complaints of finding glass in their food, which led to an initial recall of 3.4 million pounds of chicken fried rice in February. Further investigation by the manufacturer, Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., expanded the recall to a staggering 36,987,575 pounds. The source of the glass contamination has been traced to a vegetable ingredient, specifically carrots, used in the various ready-to-eat and not-ready-to-eat products. The recall is designated as Class I, the most serious type, indicating a reasonable probability of serious adverse health consequences or death if the product is consumed. The recall affects 16 different products produced between October 21, 2024, and February 26, 2026. The affected items were sold nationwide and also exported to Canada and Mexico under the brand names Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, and Trader Joe's. Despite the massive volume of recalled products and the serious nature of the contamination, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries. Consumers are urged to check their freezers for products with establishment numbers P-18356, P-18356B, or P-47971 printed inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
