Salmon Sold at BJ's Recalled Over Listeria

Slade Gorton & Co. has recalled one lot of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected products were sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club stores. The FDA is advising consumers who purchased the salmon to avoid eating it and to return it for a refund.

The recalled 2-lb bags of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon are identifiable by lot number 3896 and UPC code 888670025963, found on the back of the packaging. The affected salmon was sold at BJ's locations in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia between January 31 and February 7, 2026. The salmon was farmed in Norway and processed in Poland. The contamination was discovered after a random sample collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested positive for *Listeria monocytogenes*. Slade Gorton & Co. has stated it is investigating the source of the contamination and is taking steps to prevent a recurrence. As of the recall announcement, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this salmon. *Listeria monocytogenes* is a bacterium that can survive and grow even under refrigeration. Healthy individuals infected with Listeria may experience short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The infection poses a more significant risk to certain vulnerable groups. For pregnant women, a Listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths, while it can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. BJ's is in the process of directly notifying members who may have purchased the affected product.
