dTelecom Demos x402 for AI Translation Fees

A new use case for Solana's x402 payment standard has emerged, with dTelecom demoing its integration in their dMeetApp. The feature enables dynamic, usage-based pricing for real-time AI translation services, showcasing how micropayments can power on-demand AI features.

The x402 standard itself is an open protocol for internet-native payments, developed by the Coinbase Development Platform team to operationalize the long-dormant HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code. This allows any API or web service to programmatically require a payment before delivering content, creating a pay-per-request model ideal for machine-to-machine interactions. Solana has emerged as a leading settlement layer for x402 transactions due to its high speed and low cost, with average transaction fees around $0.00025 and 400ms finality. This efficiency is critical for the high-frequency, low-value payments characteristic of AI agents autonomously paying for services like API calls or data feeds. The volume of these transactions is already becoming significant. In late 2025, daily x402 payment volume on Solana hit an all-time high of about $380,000, with 750% week-over-week growth. By January 2026, Solana briefly surpassed Base in daily x402 transaction counts, processing roughly 518,000 payments in a single day. dTelecom is positioning itself as a key infrastructure provider for this emerging AI agent economy. The company offers a suite of decentralized real-time communication services, including WebRTC audio/video, speech-to-text, and translation, all accessible via a unified API with credit-based billing. This model allows developers and AI agents to consume services on a usage basis without vendor lock-in or traditional subscriptions. The project is targeting a combined market for Real-Time Communication, Voice AI, and AI Agents, which is projected to exceed $150 billion by 2030. dTelecom is also preparing to launch a native token, $DTEL, and is currently running a points program to reward early users of its applications like dMeet and its AI Voice Agent. Points are expected to be convertible into $DTEL tokens in the future.
