Jonathan Majors Joins Daily Wire Film
Jonathan Majors is set to star in a new action feature from Ben Shapiro's Daily Wire, signaling continued demand for his work despite recent controversies. The casting represents a notable move by the conservative media company into higher-profile action filmmaking.
The new role follows a tumultuous period for Jonathan Majors, who in December 2023 was found guilty of one count of misdemeanor assault and one count of harassment against his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. The conviction led to his immediate firing by Marvel Studios, where he was poised to be the central villain, Kang the Conqueror, in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In April 2024, Majors was sentenced to a 52-week in-person domestic violence intervention program, avoiding jail time. The sentence also requires him to continue with mental health therapy. Prior to the conviction, Majors had already been dropped by his management company, Entertainment 360, and his PR firm, The Lede Company, due to his personal behavior. The Daily Wire, co-founded by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, has a track record of producing projects with actors who have faced public controversy. The company previously worked with Gina Carano on the film "Terror on the Prairie" after she was fired from Disney's "The Mandalorian," and also produced a project featuring Armie Hammer. The untitled action film is being written and directed by Kyle Rankin, who also directed The Daily Wire's first feature film, "Run Hide Fight." Production for the new movie began in South Carolina, with the plot reportedly in the vein of '80s and '90s action films like "Red Dawn" and "Toy Soldiers." The casting has generated a range of reactions online. Ben Shapiro confirmed the news in a video, stating, "We are ecstatic to bring him back," and that The Daily Wire does not care about the criticism from what he termed the "whiny little b*tches" on the left. Critics of the move on social media have drawn a distinction between being "canceled" and being convicted of assault and harassment.
