BJ's Salmon Recalled Over Listeria
Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. has issued a recall for a specific lot of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club. The recall was initiated due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The FDA is overseeing the action and has advised consumers to check their purchases.
The specific recall applies to lot number 3896 of the Wellsley Farms salmon, sold in 2-pound bags with the UPC code 888670025963. The affected packages were sold between January 31 and February 7, 2026, at BJ's locations in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The potential contamination was discovered after a random sample collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested positive for the bacteria. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled salmon. *Listeria monocytogenes* can cause a serious infection called listeriosis. While healthy individuals may only experience short-term symptoms like high fever, headache, nausea, and diarrhea, the infection can be much more severe for others. The bacteria is particularly hardy and can survive and grow even under refrigeration and in freezing temperatures. The greatest risk is to pregnant women, as the infection can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, or life-threatening infections in newborns. Adults over 65 and individuals with weakened immune systems are also highly susceptible to more severe, invasive forms of listeriosis, which can lead to hospitalization or death. Slade Gorton & Co. is investigating the source of the contamination and taking steps to prevent a recurrence. BJ's Wholesale Club is in the process of directly notifying members who may have bought the affected product. Consumers who have purchased the recalled salmon are advised not to eat it. They can call 1-888-628-0730 for instructions on how to receive a full refund and dispose of the product.
