Metallica Adds Six Sphere Dates

Metallica is expanding their Las Vegas Sphere residency with six additional shows due to overwhelming demand. The immersive venue experience has proven so popular that ticket sales for the new dates are expected to be brisk. This marks one of the most successful rock residencies in recent memory.

The expansion to 14 shows places Metallica's residency among the most extensive at the Sphere, rivaling founding act U2's 40-show run and Dead & Company's initial 30-show engagement. U2's residency grossed an estimated $244.5 million, setting a high bar for success at the technologically advanced venue. The Sphere, a $2.3 billion venue, offers a unique concert environment with a 16K resolution wraparound LED screen and seating for approximately 17,600 people. Its advanced audio system, dubbed Sphere Immersive Sound, utilizes beamforming technology to deliver clear, consistent audio to every seat. For a band known for its powerful sound, this technology promises an unparalleled listening experience. The venue also boasts 4D capabilities, including haptic feedback in 10,000 of its seats, and atmospheric effects like wind and temperature changes. These multi-sensory elements offer artists like Metallica new ways to immerse their audience, a prospect drummer Lars Ulrich noted as an inspiration after seeing U2's debut performance. Metallica will continue their "No Repeat Weekend" format from the M72 World Tour for their Sphere residency. This means the setlists for the Thursday and Saturday shows of each weekend will be completely different, encouraging fans to attend both nights for a comprehensive experience of the band's extensive catalog. The initial eight dates were met with intense interest, with fan presales and general on-sales seeing long virtual queues and many ticket packages selling out quickly. This high level of demand prompted the addition of the six new dates to the "Life Burns Faster" residency. Other major rock acts have also found success with extended runs at the Sphere. Dead & Company's initial 30-show residency, for example, sold nearly 477,000 tickets and grossed over $131.4 million. Phish also followed their initial four-show run with a recently announced nine-show return.
