Raising Cane's Plans New Bay Area Location
Fast-food chain Raising Cane's is planning to open a new restaurant at an unspecified "iconic Bay Area destination." The location is reportedly part of a larger revitalization project. The company, known for its chicken fingers, has not yet announced a specific address or opening date.
- The new San Francisco locations will be at Stonestown Galleria, expected to open in late summer 2026, and another near Fisherman's Wharf at 211 Jefferson St., also slated for a summer 2026 opening. - The Stonestown restaurant will take over a space formerly occupied by a McDonald's for 30 years, whose franchisee cited rising rent and the state's $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers as reasons for closing. - This location is part of a massive revitalization of Stonestown Galleria, which will transform 27 acres of surface parking lots into a new neighborhood with approximately 3,500 homes, a retail "main street," and six acres of parks and open spaces. - The Fisherman's Wharf location is part of a broader revitalization effort in the tourist district, which includes the creation of a new public plaza and the opening of at least six new restaurants to fill vacancies, some of which date back to the pandemic. - These openings are part of an aggressive Bay Area expansion for the Louisiana-based chain, which opened its first Bay Area restaurant in Vacaville in 2022 and has since added locations in Colma, Oakland, Hayward, and San Jose. - The company has also purchased a building in Berkeley for $12.7 million for a future restaurant and has stated plans to add dozens more locations in the greater Bay Area over the next decade. - Another major revitalization project at an iconic local site is the complete demolition of The Shops at Tanforan in San Bruno, which will be redeveloped into a biotech campus. The site is historically significant as it was a racetrack and served as a temporary internment camp for 8,000 Japanese Americans during World War II.
