Anthropic Enhances Claude Code with New Features

Anthropic has added new features to its Claude Code assistant, including slash commands and SSH environments for better integration into engineering workflows. The updates are designed to make the tool more extensible for tasks like debugging and release automation. The coding assistant has also seen adoption in non-technical fields, with lawyers and real estate agents using it for drafting and document analysis.

- Anthropic's latest funding round in February 2026 raised $30 billion, more than doubling its valuation to $380 billion, making it one of the world's most valuable private companies. This massive influx of capital is intended to fuel further research, product development, and infrastructure expansion. - The company's annualized revenue has reached $14 billion, with enterprise customers driving approximately 80% of that figure, largely through the adoption of Claude Code. Anthropic's enterprise strategy involves embedding its own AI experts within client companies like Accenture and Snowflake to accelerate adoption and build custom workflows. - The new SSH support in Claude Code allows the AI assistant to connect directly to a remote machine and operate within its environment. This can be done either through the desktop app for a full visual experience with diffs and file browsing or by running the `claude` command inside an existing SSH session in the terminal. - In coding benchmarks, Claude models are often noted for generating more production-ready code with better handling of edge cases and thread safety compared to competitors like GPT-4. While GPT-4 Turbo has a knowledge cutoff of April 2023, Claude 2.1's is earlier, in early 2023, which can be a factor for tasks requiring very recent information. - Anthropic has established significant strategic partnerships, including a collaboration with NVIDIA to optimize its models for better performance and a deal with Microsoft to make Claude models available on Azure. As part of these partnerships, NVIDIA and Microsoft are investing up to $10 billion and $5 billion, respectively, in Anthropic. - Under the hood, Claude Code operates as a multi-layered system that translates natural language into system-level operations. It uses a transformer-based intent parser and a state observation protocol that monitors the file system, environment variables, and process states to maintain context. - To support its growing international enterprise customer base, Anthropic is significantly expanding its global presence. This includes tripling its international workforce, opening a new office in Bengaluru, India, and adding over 100 new roles in its Dublin and London offices. - The slash commands feature introduces reusable prompt snippets for common tasks like `/debug` or `/release-notes`. Anthropic is expected to allow users to create custom slash commands from their own prompts, enabling the standardization of workflows.
