A Jacksonville City Council committee backed an exception that would let Kappuccinos Breakfast & Sport sell alcohol at its Northside location. (jaxdailyrecord.com) The Land Use and Zoning Committee voted 6-0 on April 21 to recommend approval of Ordinance 2026-0211. Committee member Rahman Johnson was away from the dais, and the full council is scheduled to meet April 28. (jaxdailyrecord.com) (jaxcityc.legistar.com) (jacksonville.gov) The zoning exception covers retail sales and service of liquor, beer and wine for on-premises or off-premises consumption in connection with the restaurant. The site is in a planned unit development at the corner of Alta Drive and Faye Road in Dunns Creek Crossing. (jaxcityc.legistar.com) (jaxdailyrecord.com) That exception is the last major local approval the business has been waiting on as it builds out its space. The city issued a permit March 31 for a $155,083 renovation of about 6,000 square feet, including a 600-square-foot patio, at 11257 Alta Drive. (jaxdailyrecord.com) Keith and Catherine Jones have said they want the business to operate as a breakfast-and-lunch spot by day and a sports bar at night. Keith Jones said in February that Kappuccinos would open at 6 a.m., serve lunch until 1 p.m., then reopen at 5 p.m. through 10:30 or 11 p.m. with large-screen televisions, a full bar and live music later in the week. (jaxdailyrecord.com) The location sits near Interstate 295 and the road to JaxPort-linked industrial areas, and Jones said he expects neighborhood residents, truckers, port workers and nearby employees to be part of the customer base. Ash Properties owns the newly built shopping center. (jaxdailyrecord.com 1) (jaxdailyrecord.com 2) If the full council approves the ordinance on April 28, Kappuccinos can move closer to opening the day-to-night concept the owners have pitched for North Jacksonville. Jones said in late March he was “patiently waiting” for the zoning ordinance before giving an opening date. (jaxcityc.legistar.com) (jaxdailyrecord.com)
