G42 Begins Hiring AI Agents

Abu Dhabi's tech giant G42 has started a formal recruitment process for AI 'agents' to work alongside its human employees. The AI agents must qualify for their roles and even clear a probation period, just like human hires. The move is being watched globally as a major step toward AI-driven workforce disruption in tech, retail, and logistics.

This move is part of a grander vision articulated by G42's Group CEO, Peng Xiao, who stated a goal of producing over one billion AI agents in 2026. These agents are envisioned for a wide array of roles, from petroleum engineers to cybersecurity analysts, aiming to significantly boost GDP. If deployed at scale, these agents could consume close to one gigawatt of AI infrastructure, underscoring the massive computational power required for such a workforce. The recruitment process for these AI agents is designed to mirror human hiring, including a structured evaluation of their technical capabilities, reliability, and performance. Successful candidates will undergo a probationary period to assess their sustained value before wider deployment. A value-linked compensation model is also being introduced for the developers of these AI agents, tying their rewards to the enterprise impact of their creations. G42 has already begun specifying roles for these AI agents, particularly within its Human Capital division. A job posting for a "Human Capital Intelligence Agent" outlines responsibilities such as talent acquisition, employer branding analytics, management of the human capital operations lifecycle, and total rewards modeling. The agent will be required to integrate with existing HR systems and operate within a cloud-agnostic architecture. This initiative is a core component of the UAE's National AI Strategy 2031, which aims to integrate artificial intelligence across key sectors of the economy. G42 is a central player in this strategy, tasked with driving AI adoption and innovation throughout the Emirates. The strategy targets sectors like transportation, health, and education to enhance efficiency and productivity. Leading the internal adoption of this new workforce model is Maymee Kurian, G42's Group Chief Augmented Human Capital Officer. Kurian emphasizes that this is not about incremental gains but a fundamental rethinking of workforce design for the AI era. The stated goal is to augment the execution capacity of human employees, allowing them to focus on leadership, innovation, and strategic outcomes. The broader tech industry is also seeing a shift towards the use of AI agents to automate tasks and improve efficiency. Companies are deploying AI for functions like data entry, scheduling, and customer support to free up employees for more complex work. This trend is expected to accelerate, with one report indicating that 80% of executives believe their company's survival will depend on agentic AI by 2027.
