Street League Announces DTLA Takeover

Street League Skateboarding (SLS) announced a DTLA takeover event for April 4, building anticipation for the downtown Los Angeles skateboarding spectacle. The WST World Championships São Paulo 2025 preview is generating buzz, while Uganda Skateboard Society shared impressive footage showcasing the global reach of skateboarding culture.

The DTLA Takeover on April 4th at Ace Mission Studios is a one-day festival celebrating the intersection of skate culture with music, food, and art. To amplify the deep-rooted connection between skateboarding and Los Angeles, the event has enlisted Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda to narrate its promotional video and graffiti artist SABER to shape its visual identity. Founded by professional skateboarder and entrepreneur Rob Dyrdek in 2010, Street League Skateboarding was created to elevate street skateboarding to a professional level with a global series of events. It introduced standardized courses and a consistent competition format, offering the largest monetary prize in skateboarding history. The league's top skaters will compete in the SLS Super Crown World Championship in São Paulo in December 2025. Past male champions include Nyjah Huston and female champions include Rayssa Leal, both of whom have significantly influenced the competitive landscape of the sport. The mention of the Uganda Skateboard Society highlights the global and grassroots nature of skate culture. Founded by Gose Gerald in 2011 after he was inspired by a Canadian skateboarder, the society has been instrumental in building a DIY skate scene in Uganda. Lacking official support or local skate shops, the community has relied on donations and their own labor to build skateparks, gaining international recognition for their passion and unique style.
