New Mission-Driven Food Truck Opens in Petaluma

The new food truck, named Worldly Bites, is the creation of Petaluma locals Michelle and David White. Their venture combines a passion for global street food with a commitment to community support. A portion of the food truck's proceeds will directly benefit the Petaluma Kitchen. The Petaluma Kitchen is a program under the Committee on the Shelterless (COTS), which provides daily free meals to the public. Beyond serving hot meals, the kitchen also acts as a point of contact for individuals and families needing referrals for housing, clothing, or medical resources. The food box program, also operated by COTS, delivers approximately 40 pounds of food, equating to about 32 meals, to families in need. The menu at Worldly Bites will feature a rotating selection of international dishes, with initial offerings including Thai green curry and chicken shawarma. This adds a unique flavor profile to Petaluma's food truck landscape, which already includes a variety of cuisines. Operating a food truck in Petaluma comes with its own set of challenges, including navigating city and county health and safety regulations, which are often designed with traditional restaurants in mind. Aspiring food truck owners must secure various permits and operate out of a sanctioned commercial kitchen. The city of Petaluma evaluates each food truck on a case-by-case basis due to the absence of specific codes for mobile vendors.
